March 2012 marks 9 years of sharing the gift of music! Since opening its doors in 2003, GMG Music Center has expanded its services to meet the needs of our students and provide quality music instruction to young musicians ages 4-18. GMG is not following the traditional track of music education, but understands the need to integrate technology, a strong theoretical foundation, and application in the structure of the overall program. We want our student to know music, not just how to play a song or two. GMG Music Center has made its mark as a music school rather than a traditional teaching studio. GMG's focus is on the quality of music education rather than the quantity of students. By providing students the opportunity to participate in unlimited private lessons in addition to their weekly group class we have seen extraordinary growth and the opportunity to provide personalized attention to our students. The staff takes a personal vested interest in each student that comes through the doors regardless of skill level. We focus on developing well rounded musicians making sure that each student truly understands the content before moving on the next level. At GMG Music Center we teach students accountability by requiring students to practice weekly and complete their weekly assignments. We believe that music education not only provides students with the musical know how, but also builds character and teaches them valuable life lessons that will last a life time. Parental involvement is an invaluable asset at GMG Music Center. We view music education as a triangle that involves the teacher, the student and the parent. Studies prove and we have seen that young musicians with actively engaged parents tend to progress further than music students who lack parental support and engagement. To read more about this click here. Overall, we are happy with the direction of GMG Music Center. We are constantly looking for ways to meet the needs of our students and infuse creative ways to deliver the information. We understand that practice can be a challenge, so that is why in the Fall of 2012 we will be incorporating a new program called Smart Music to help both the student and parent.
GMG Celebrates 9 Years of Music Education
We understand that practice can be a challenge, so that is why in the Fall of 2012 we will be incorporating a new program called SmartMusic to help both the student and parent as it relates to practice. SmartMusic is interactive music software that helps students practice music, get better faster, and make practicing more fun. GMG Staff will create customized arrangements for their students to utilize during practice. SmartMusic comes with amazing accompaniments for thousands of titles, challenging exercises, and the ability to interact online with your child's music instructor. We find SmartMusic to be a valuable addition to the curriculum because not only will the software help the student by providing them with an instant backup band at home, but it will assist the parent in knowing how their child is suppose to sound by getting instant feedback of his/her progress. When you play with SmartMusic, the software follows what youre playing and shows you on the computer screen how well youre doing. Correctly played notes turn green. Notes you miss turn red. Its easy to figure out where you need more practice. With SmartMusic you can move at your own pace by slowing down the tempo until you get the hang of it, and then increase the tempo. Students can submit their assignments right through SmartMusic and then move ahead to new songs. We are excited about using SmartMusic because of numerous reasons, one of which it allows students to make a recording of their performance at home and send it to GMG staff for review. Students can record themselves playing with or without their SmartMusic backup band as accompaniment. They can even be the star of their own CD to share with family or friends! GMG Music Center will require that students enrolled in the Music Center get a SmartMusic Account by September 1, 2012. The cost of is $36 per year. To find out more about SmartMusic and the benefits click here. You can also check out the SmartMusic video overview below. We are excited about this new tool to assist you and your child! We will be sending out additional information. If you are interested in your child participating in our beta group that will begin soon rather than waiting until the fall, please contact the office no later than March 31.

Open Mic is a Treat for Students
GMG Music Center strives to teach its students the performance side of music and Open Mic Friday is an avanue to do just that! While learning to sing or how to play a musical instrument is fun we want students to build their confidence through perfromance. Open Mic Friday is an opportunity for young musicians to share their gift of music with their family, friends and the community. Open Mic Friday is held once a month and is open to all GMG Music Center students as well as non-students ages 8-18.
Our goal is to provide a family friendly atmosphere where students can build their confidence while performing in front of their peers and other individuals. Due to limited space we do ask that particpants and audience member register to attend this free community event. The next scheduled Open Mic Friday is March 30, 2012 at 5pm. To register to attend or perform click here.
